Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and Russian billionaire Yuri Milner are pushing the search for extraterrestrial life into higher gear. The pair said Monday the $100m program funded by Milner will combine unprecedented computing capacity with the worlds most powerful telescopes in a search of the heavens. Milner said the search will be entirely transparent and will rely on open|source software so findings can be shared throughout the world.

在此次伦敦皇家科学掌握探寻外星生命征兆的启动仪式上，霍金说：在无限的茫茫宇宙中，肯定存在着其它形式的生命。可能外星生命会正盯着大家看呢。不管如何，这都是非常重要的问题。是时候有人来找出这个问题的答案了，去探寻地球以外的生命。弄了解大家到底是否黑暗中孤独的存在，这点对大家非常重要。
